Description
Up until the first half of the 20th century, before the Interstate highways, the Columbia River was the major 'water highway,' linking small towns up and down the Gorge. All that remains of the old transportation infrastructure is wooden pilings, like the ones shown here, and some restored docks, still being used by River boats, now operating as tourist attractions
